PaliGhar and the surrounding region of Kalimpong is a delight for bird-watchers, entomologists and for those interested in any other taxa as the region boasts of excellent green cover and species endemicity.

Due to varying habitat types, vegetation and altitudes, this region houses a rich diversity of avi-fauna and butterfly species. Form the premises itself you may get to sight common birds like the treepie, bulbuls, common kingfisher, oriental turtle dove.

As we take leisurely walks out of the property into the woods, you will be welcomed by the cackling calls of the white-crested laughing thrush and occasionally may also sight woodpeckers, peafowls, common hoopoe and many more bird species. As we move downwards towards the valley, you are bound to encounter huge diversity of butterfly species.

You will also be introduced to our native plant species and you can learn the various ways they are used by the local community. We host a large number of medicinal herbs that are traditionally used by these communities and the information that they hold is immense.
